I was asked to write this today by Stacey Wilkinson
who kindly reminded me that I was at the first meeting of Wycombe MAG, and that
there are members now whose mother I am old enough to be. Thank you friend.
Yep, 20 years ago I turned up on my 100cc Honda, and sat in the Red Lion,
looking around the room at all the bikers who had come to hear what Simon the
rep had to say. If my memory serves me correctly, and I'm not sure that it
does, we discussed leg protectors, and what a bad idea they were. And since
then have lobbied against many other issues involving our rights.
I met a great bunch of people who soon became friends, and after all these
years still are. People prepared to fight for Riders Rights and their two
wheeled companions.
We attended rallies in London, enjoyed meeting up with other MAG groups, and
the parties,( Oh boy the parties), but I can't go into that publicly.
Then Paul Minton decided that it was time to put on a bike show. It started in
what was Frogmoor, and from there became Chinnor Bike Dayz. It has always been
a huge success, raising awareness and thousands of pounds for charity. Mainly
the Air Ambulance, whom many of our friends would not be here now without them.
But what we must not forget is FRED HILL. The reason MAG was set up. At the
coldest time of the year, many bikers from all over the country get together
and ride out freezing their arses off in support of this man. Some ride without
lids, me included. Fred Hill died in prison while serving a sentence because he
had been arrested for not wearing a helmet.
This was his choice, he wasn't going to be dictated to.
And that is what life should be about, CHOICE.
Enjoy riding.
