CHINNOR BIKE DAY 1999

"No problem", everyone said "It's going to be blindingly hot". 75° and partial cloud said the weather people. Pah! About 55° and entirely cloudy is what we got! Apart from that, the Third Chinnor Bike Day was in everyone's opinion the best yet. The two stage marshalled run-in went well, a difficult route brilliantly controlled by Wycombe MAG's expert marshalls. Well done, chaps! The only downer was the bloke who decided to overcook it and put his GPz550 into a ditch. Ironically, he wasn't actually on the run, but coming the other way; we're very pleased to report that he wasn't hurt (although his bike didn't look too healthy) and he turned up at the show later in the day. Most of the show ground was packed virtually all afternoon. We had a crackin' range of bikes turn up including some storming custom bikes. We were all very pleased that the Best in Show went to Grasscutters Harley 45 which he's restored over a number of years to better than original. An absolutely gorgeous machine. The bands went down well: Itchy Feet playing the first gig of their World Tour by all accounts and One Way Out proving to be a brilliant live rockabilly band. Unfortunately, it all got cut a bit short when the main fuse for the power blew which meant that the awards had to be shouted out rather than announced over the P.A. to the assembled throng. We are indebted to Classic Bike author Steve Wilson (he of Classic Bike Guide) who gamely helped out with the awards and choosing the best pre 1970 British Bike, a very loud (both visually and aurally) Triumph T120TT. The Yamaha SRX400 raffle bike went to someone in Wycombe who unfortunately wasn't actually at the show. Profits from the raffle turned out to be just on £3000 once we totted everything up - we duly presented The Bucks Association for the Blind with a cheque for £1500; the rest was presented to MAG UK via our Thames Valley MAG rep. Clive Crocker at our A.G.M. on September 1st. The evening party featured a popular set by The Cozy Cat Band who played during the day last year, as well as a very determined performance by headline act State of Mind who had to play to a rather diminished audience, many people having gone to Mark and Sally's Wedding do in nearby Postcombe. However, those of us who did go had a great evening!
