CHINNOR BIKE DAYZ XII
Well where should I start to talk about
this weekend?
Wycombe Mag once
again, in my eyes, pulled off a great show weekend to raise money
for the
Thames
Valley
and Chiltern
Air Ambulance or should I say now known as Beds Oxon and Bucks Air Ambulance.
The weekend started early for some, as
there was ample equipment to be set up and areas to be sectioned off so all
that were going to be coming for the weekend knew exactly where to go.
All that I have had the pleasure of
working alongside at this event were overwhelmed with anticipation of this
weekend and we all pulled together to get things started with the guidance of
Wycombe's own Jon Wilmer, the Chinnor Rep.
For me
personnally I was
amazed by how friendly all the members are as I have only just recently returned to
the area and I felt right at home and part of this group right from the start.
Friday morning and it was all hands
on to get everything sorted before the general public and bikers alike started
to arrive so it didnt matter if there was an access point to control or the mag
stall to help out with, we all just got on with it .
The weather was also hot so plenty of
the old sun cream was getting past around followed by a quick rain shower !! With this happening for some part of the day, some of the
group were hoping it was not going to end up being like the previous
year, where I heard it was a weekend of rain.
The stage was set, the stalls
were arriving and well controlled by Stacey Wilkinson and most importantly the
marquee for the alcohol was ready and awaiting the arrival of the Flackwell Heath
bar staff from the Stag.
Then there was the Wycombe
Mag stall under the watchfull eyes of Sarah Styles and Ryon McCoy, it was set
up and displayed in a way that we couldnt of been happier , from the show of
the new and old T-shirt designs to the amazing trophies, that apart from two, were all
hand made by Ryon and Sarah with a little help from the talents of others in
the group .
Next to them was the
works of Phil spraying up Waist coats, jackets and T-shirts with the air brush and on
the other side of the Mag stall was the delightful Kayley Wilkinson, Who by all accounts had been
working night and day after school to make sure the book stall that she wanted
was perfect and for an 8 year old she was fab!
It must of been about one or two in
the afternoon and bikers from around began to grace us with their presence and
set up their tents ready for the fun of this weekend and at the same time
remembering that the reason for this was the Air Ambulance .
Now all our hard work was now being
put to this test but only time will tell, the bands were arriving and
eventually starting to entertain us all and there were 7 bands in total !
After a couple of beers and maybe
a JD or two Friday was nearing an end and for what I could see a successful first
day.
Saturday, yes well we start to wake
with the sound of drip drip drip on the outside of our tents but thankfully it
was short lived and the temperature began to climb and the clouds began to break
and reveal the warming sun.
The Mag members were
slowly waking and then readying themselves for the ride out from the
Thame services and I was honoured to be part of this amazing ride
also in attendance were a wide range of bikes and trikes and a large
contingence of SERV
the blood and organ transfer riders
and all in total I would say there were about 100 or so bikes ready
for this ride and the main man leading this ride was the Wycombe Mag
Rep Mark Mawby .
With the 11 or so marshals making sure
that the ride went smoothly with no troubles. The people we passed and
had chance to speak to were understanding in the support for what we
were doing and not forgetting our Stacey, who for some time hasn't
been able to ride due to a bad back was there on her bike, as she
does, being the back marker with her flashing beacon, well done
Stace!!!
As for me if it wasn't for the kindness
of Paul and Anne then me too would not of been enjoying the ride and
thier trusty stead of the ER6 was just the
ticket.
With the grace and smooth riding
and team work of all I marshalled with, we were on the approach to
the camp site and I managed to get myself into a position where I could
finally see the sea of bikes slowly coming down the road and safely
into the layby adjacent to our campsite.
As the first line of bikes entered
through the gates the bands began to play with the roar of engine
noise from the bikes and it has to be mentioned that the local road
users were very considerate and understanding as well as supportive
of what the event was in aid of and a number of them came in to
watch the bikeshow.
As for the Mag stall and the new design
and logo on the hoodies and the like, we began to run out rather
quickly and I think that would be down to a friend of Mark Mawby who
designed the art work and help with the production of our
wears.
The team from Air Ambulance
were also busying themselves ready for the arrival of the Air
Ambulance itself and as promise we could see the crew flying in and
with all of Wycombe MAG assisted
in making sure all our
young visitors and other public were at a safe distance so not to
get injured.
Once we were given the all clear the MAG
members for Wycombe were invited over to have a group photo with the
crew and this amazing aircraft that is fully equiped to save anyones
life when they are called upon.
The public and rally goers were then
allowed to see for themselves where thier money they had paid at the
gate and on raffle tickets was now going to and I don't think there
was anyone there complaining!
Unfortunately one of the crew received a
phone call and as fast as they arrived they were up and away on an
emergency call, a sight in my eyes I will never
forget.
With all around going back to the stalls and
drinks it was coming close to the time to
present the trophies to the winners of the bike show , this had
been judged by two members of the club and 2 guest judges Phil Fisher who
will airbrush anything that sits still long enough and Mr David Quinton, who
generously donated an amazing BBQ as one of our raffle
prizes.
All on this went really well and I
helped Jon Wilmer in presenting the trophies and by surprise two
known riders won the best cruiser and best rat bike, well one
guys!!
As for the best in show we were amazed
to find that the winner had also won a trophy at a Chinnor bike day
show with the same bike!
With all the presentations completed
there was now the raffle left to deal with and with that the king of
the raffle tickets Spike was busy mixing and walking around the site
asking people to pull a ticket and with that he got all geared up to
see who had won the first prize. What a great
guy!
All bar one ticket
had been drawn and now for the last one to be drawn and Jon Wilmer
gave this honour to a young girl that, at the
age of 14 had the unfortunate time to
have the Air Ambulance come to her rescue as she was involved in an
accident falling from her horse.
The number got called and no-one replied
so Jon decided to phone the winner and made it so all could hear
what was being said and to be honest I think it was more shock and
disbelief more than anything!!
During the phone calls to the winner of
the motor bike they actually came to the show ground and I think for
the first time the first prize was presented to the winner at the
show with cheers and whistles and more to congratulate the lucky
one!
The celebrations continued and the bands
fired up again for the last part of the night before Chinnor Bike
Dayz XII was slowly bought to a close and even now I cant wait to
find out how well we done for one great
charity!
Now I dont know about
anyone else as I haven’t asked but for me I had a great time and
made loads of new friends from far and wide and so can’t wait for
the next one that Wycombe Mag do!
